A Sweet Send-Off: Celebrating L’s 8th Grade Graduation There is something so special about the season between middle school and high school—a mix of excitement, a little bit of nervousness, and a whole lot of possibility. Recently, I had the joy of photographing a beautiful young lady, L, as she celebrates her 8th-grade graduation and gets ready to take on high school next year.

From the moment L stepped in front of the camera, her confidence and joy really shined through. She looked absolutely lovely for her session—not just because of her natural beauty, but because of the care and thought that went into every detail. Mom did an incredible job helping her prepare, from outfits to little finishing touches, and it all came together beautifully in the photos.

One of my favorite parts of the shoot was when her “partner in crime” joined in—her younger sister. The two of them together were nonstop smiles, inside jokes, and giggles, and we were able to capture a few sweet sister moments that I know will mean even more as they grow older. Those images of the two of them side by side really tell the story of their bond.

It was a fun time with the whole family, and you could feel just how proud everyone is of L and this big milestone. We weren’t just taking graduation photos; we were celebrating years of hard work, growth, and the exciting new chapter that’s just around the corner.

To L: congratulations on your 8th grade graduation, and best of luck as you head into high school. If your session was any indication, you’re stepping into this next chapter with grace, strength, and a smile that lights up every frame. Eaton Preserve in Plainfield is one of my favorite spots for graduation photos, with its historic farm-style barns, open trails, and beautiful views along the DuPage River. Whether we are photographing by the Plainfield barn ruins, the towering silo, or the tree-lined paths, this location creates a timeless, rustic backdrop for 8th grade graduation sessions and family portraits.
