Rustic Barn Engagement Session at Eaton Preserve in Plainfield

Some sessions just feel easy from the very first frame, and this engagement session at Eaton Preserve in Plainfield was definitely one of them. These two showed up ready to laugh, lean into each other, and just be themselves, which is always where the best images start.

We began their session along the weathered barn at Eaton Preserve, using the peeling paint and long lines of the siding as a textured backdrop for some relaxed, candid portraits. With his hands in his pockets and her arm looped through his, they fell into a natural rhythm together—no stiff poses, just the way they actually are when it is just the two of them.

From there, we wandered around the grounds, taking advantage of the soft light and the fresh green of the open fields. They joked, stole little glances at each other, and every now and then forgot the camera was even there. Those are always my favorite moments—the in-between laughs and quiet pauses that say so much about a relationship.

As the evening went on, we mixed in a few more classic “save the date” style portraits, but kept everything relaxed and true to who they are as a couple. By the end of the session, it felt less like a photoshoot and more like a walk with two people who are genuinely excited to start this next chapter together.

Eaton Preserve in Plainfield, Illinois is one of my favorite locations for engagement photos, with its rustic barn, open green spaces, and beautiful natural scenery along the DuPage River. Whether we are photographing against the barn’s textured siding, by the old farm structures, or along the tree-lined paths, this Plainfield park creates a timeless, romantic backdrop for couples’ sessions.
